Karl Stefanovic branded 60 Minutes ‘out of touch’ during a ‘b****y’ recorded Uber phone-call with his brother Peter about their Network Nine colleagues last month.
And 60 Minutes boss
has now reportedly shelved many of Karl’s interviews for the current affairs program in response to his explosive comments.
Thomson wants to dump the presenter from her show but is contractually required to give him a certain number of hours of screen time, sources have claimed.
‘Kristy is not happy. She really feels thrown under the bus by Karl. She doesn’t want him to be part of her show,’ an insider told The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted representatives for Peter, Karl and 60 Minutes for comment.
Karl blasted 60 Minutes in a conversation with Peter last month, according to the Uber driver.
’60 Minutes is not what it was a couple of years ago – it has lost relevance and lost viewers,’ he reportedly said.
‘It’s often on at 8.45pm – you draw your own conclusion on how it is going. The people upstairs don’t know anything and are out of touch with what’s going on.’
Kirsty has reportedly equally insulted by Peter and has allegedly rejected more than half a dozen of his story ideas for her show this year.
Neither of the brothers were featured on Sunday evening’s episode of 60 Minutes.
Meanwhile, Karl was slammed after he called Kylie Minogue a ‘hot 50-year-old’ and told her to stop dating ‘good-looking d**kheads’ in a bizarre recent interview for 60 Minutes.
The host, 43, also brought out a cake and sang happy birthday to the pop sensation during the wince-inducing chat.
Viewers were less than impressed with the father-of-three’s onscreen antics, branding the meeting a ‘trainwreck’ and calling for someone more ‘professional’ to take the helm.
Karl and Peter have been thrust into a storm of controversy since details of their 45-minute conversation were made public last month.
The Uber driver supposedly overheard their chat after Peter took a late-night ride in his car and spoke to Karl on speakerphone.
Karl reportedly discussed his ‘problems’ with Georgie – who recently joined him as co-host of the Today show – and claimed she ‘sits on the fence’ and is too neutral.
The Uber driver told New Idea: ‘(Karl) said she didn’t have enough opinions and he wanted her to step up. He actually sounded angry and said he was going to start pushing hard and that she needed to do that if she wanted to stay on the show.’
Later, the conversation turned to Channel Nine entertainment editor Richard Wilkins, who Karl complained was too secretive with his showbusiness contacts.
Other network executives were also in the line of fire during the lengthy chat.
The brothers issues an apology after the chat, according to the Sunday Telegraph.
‘We talk a hundred times a day and hardly ever about work,’ Karl said. ‘But we did, and the conversation was recorded. And we are sorry. I was angry with myself at first that I could be so stupid.’
Peter also apologised, saying: ‘I did a silly thing and feel awful for any embarrassment I’ve brought to my colleagues, who I deeply respect.’
