Anna Faris has opened up about her high-profile divorce from Chris Pratt, revealing that the couple were “guilty” of creating a misleading public image during their eight-year marriage.
Speaking to pal Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expertpodcast, the Overboard star said her seemingly idyllic home life wasn’t what it appeared to be.
“We intentionally cultivated this idea of like, ‘Look at this beautiful family,'” admitted the 41-year-old, adding that social media helped to spin their narrative.
“There were so many moments that were like that, but like anything on social media, you don’t post like, ‘Where the f— is the toilet paper?!’ or whatever. I think it’s a very hard forum to be genuine, and I think it does a disservice to people to not be.”
Faris first married actor Ben Indra when she was 27 years old, then left him for the Guardians of the Galaxystar three years later.
She and Pratt, 38, tied the knot in 2009, had son Jack in 2012, and then underwent an excruciating public split in 2017, much to the shock of fans who had previously lauded their apparently strong relationship.
“Chris and I did talk about [the public reaction]. We got, like [people commenting] on the Twitter feed, ‘Love is dead’ and ‘relationship goals,'” she recalled.
“I think what we were also guilty of — we obviously cultivated something, and it was rewarding for a while. It was like, ‘People seem to think we got all this s— right.'”
Faris is currently dating cinematographer Michael Barrett, but is unlikely to walk down the aisle for a third time.
I need to figure out what the purpose is,” she said while contemplating the idea of marriage.
“Is it safety for your children? Is it convention? Is it so other people respect your relationship more?
“For me, I’m just not quite sure where it fits, especially when it feels so easy to get married, and then the untangling — when the state gets involved…”
Faris maintains that she’s still great mates with her movie star ex, and from all reports, their divorce was handled amicably.
“We had an unbelievable marriage, and we have a great friendship now,” she said. “And we love our son to death, and I’m really proud of that.”
