Australian Ball-Tampering Scandal: Footage Emerges of Cameron Bancroft Allegedly Pocketing Sugar during Ashes Test

There are fears Australia’s ball tampering could extend beyond the third Test in South Africa – with footage emerging of Cameron Bancroft appearing to put sugar in his pocket during last summer’s Ashes series.

The incident is reported to have taken place during the fifth Ashes Test between Australia and England at the SCG.

The footage, which has been circulating on social media, appears to show Bancroft in the sheds putting a spoon of sugar into his hand, then into his pocket.

What the sugar was used for is unclear, however South African skipper Faf du Plessis was found guilty of ball tampering in 2016 after rubbing a sugary lolly on the ball during a Test match in Hobart.
