The girlfriend of surfing legend Mick Fanning has paid tribute to her ‘McMuffin’ after the three-time world champion announced his retirement on Wednesday.
In one of the first photos of the pair together, Fanning’s American girlfriend Breeana Randall posted she was ‘incredibly proud’ as he called time on his 17-year career.
Fanning, 36, said he no longer had ‘the motivation and dedication’ to compete at the top level, with his retirement coming just a few months after his relationship with the 25-year-old model and humanitarian was revealed.
Posting a selfie of her and Fanning to Instagram, Ms Randall heaped praise on a man many believe is Australia’s greatest ever male surfer.
‘McMuffin!! Incredibly proud of you @mfanno and everything you stand for,’ the post from Ms Randall read.
‘Cheers to you, cheers to your journey, and cheers to the amazing experiences ahead.’
Himself using social media to let his fans know ‘it’s time’, Fanning announced on his Instagram that he would be finishing up after Bells Beach next month.
‘The tour has given me so much but I need a fresh challenge. I still love the game but can’t find the motivation required to compete for World Titles anymore,’ he wrote.
‘My time on tour has been incredibly rewarding and I have so many amazing memories, all of which wouldn’t be possible without some very special people.’
Fanning went on to thank his family, friends, sponsors, competitors and fans in the lengthy post.
The surfing legend’s relationship with Ms Randall was revealed by Daily Mail Australia last year, after the pair were spotted together on the Gold Coast.
It came almost two years after Fanning and Ms Dalton revealed they were divorcing.
Fanning and Ms Randall recently holidayed to Japan, with the blonde beauty posting a picture of them together in the snow-filled mountains.
