While the 60th Annual Grammy Awards were full to the brim with A-list celebrity guests, hosts, and performers – it was Beyonce and Jay-Z’s six-year-old daughter who was the unlikely breakout star of the night, in more way than one.
As well as sending the internet into a spin after showing off her sassy side while telling her parents to stop clapping so enthusiastically in an adorable moment which became a viral meme within minutes, the youngster also sparked a frenzy on social media with one particularly grown-up element of her outfit.
Her high heels.
Despite her young age, Blue Ivy proved she can more than keep up with her famous parents in the style stakes, making quite the statement in her all-white ensemble – which helped her to stand out against her parents, who were both clad in all-black – and her silver sparkly heels.
Indeed, it was Blue Ivy’s sparkly footwear that caused quite the stir on social media, stealing the spotlight almost entirely from her mother and father – with few noticing Beyonce’s large hat, diamond earrings, or Alain Mikli sunglasses, and instead giving all their attention to her daughter’s sassy style.
‘Blue Ivy came out tonight with her bun full, edges laid, heels on, and shade in tact. I absolutely love that child,’ one Grammy Awards viewer tweeted.
Meanwhile another added: ‘Blue Ivy is wearing heels! She’s 6. She’s Beyoncé’s child. Ok it’s a kitten heel but still.’
One person also chimed in: ‘Blue Ivy is trying to murder me with them kitten heels! Princess of Lewks and High Fashion.’
Posting several pictures of Blue Ivy sitting alongside her parents at the awards, another Twitter user jokingly wrote: ‘Blue Ivy did not come to play… she got her trainer heels on and all!’
Some people remarked on how grown up the young girl – who became an older sister to twin siblings, Rumi and Sir Carter, back in June – now is.
‘Y’all Blue Ivy is grown. She brought her heels out tonight!’ one person commented, while another jokingly said: ‘Blue Ivy got her heels on ready to take over the world!’
Blue and her mother were there to cheer on Jay Z, who was nominated for eight awards for his album 4:44.
And it wasn’t just Blue Ivy’s high heels that helped the young lady to steal the spotlight from her parents – and indeed every other A-lister in attendance at the star-studded event.
At one point during the evening, the cameras caught Blue Ivy calmly turning to her parents – who are widely regarded to be among some of the entertainment industry’s coolest stars – in order to tell them to calm down and stop clapping so enthusiastically.
With a steely gaze, and a nonchalant ‘calm down’ hand gesture, she immediately brought them to heel as they clapped enthusiastically at her side.
Superstar: Social media couldn’t get enough of Blue Ivy’s sassy look
The moment, although lasting just a few short seconds, immediately captured the attention of thousands of Grammys viewers around the world, many of whom tweeted about the kindergartner’s sassy attitude – while also sharing video clips of her telling Beyonce and Jay-Z to calm down.
‘Yo did Blue Ivy just tell her parents to not clap? Lol,’ one person tweeted, along with a GIF showing her lifting her hand up and making a ‘shhh’ moment to both of her parents.
‘Blue Ivy controlling the crowd and the world,’ another person added.
The family’s outing came shortly after Jay-Z opened up about his marriage in a very candid interview, during which he appeared to admit to being unfaithful to his wife.
Speaking during an appearance on The Van Jones Show, he said: ‘You can love someone but if you haven’t experienced love, and you don’t understand it and you don’t have the tools to move forward, then you’re going to have complications and you can either address it or you can pretend until until it blows up at some point.
‘For us, we chose to fight for our love. For our family. To give our kids a different outcome. To break that cycle for black men and women … We were never a celebrity couple, we were a couple that happened to be celebrities. We are real people. It’s my soul mate, it’s the person I love.’
In 2016, 36-year-old Beyoncé released her Lemonade album which featured tracks that addressed problems the pair had been having in their marriage, most notably in the track Sorry, which includes the line ‘You better call Becky with the good hair.’
Jay-Z released 4:44 a year later to address their relationship from his perspective, such as including the line Leave Me Alone Becky in the track Family Feud.
And Jay-Z previously admitted that whilst the pair had ‘a lot of conversations’ about the music they were releasing, hearing the tracks made them both ‘uncomfortable’.
The father-of-three – the two also have seven-month-old twins Sir and Rumi – said: ‘The best place in the hurricane is in the middle of it.
‘The best place is right in the middle of the pain. And that’s where we were sitting. And it was uncomfortable.
‘And we had a lot of conversations. [I was] really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released. And, you know, at the end of the day we really have a healthy respect for one another’s craft. I think she’s amazing.’
