Australia Day is just around the corner, and to celebrate the national holiday, an abundance of special free events will be on offer across the country.
While majority of the events are held on the official date on Friday, festivities will be held right across the long holiday weekend in all major cities.
Here’s the best of what’s on in your city:
WHAT: Australia Day Big Breakfast – Enjoy a hearty and hot brekkie while soaking in live music and entertainment at Dee Why Beach

WHAT: GIO Oz Day 10K Wheelchair Road Race – Wheelchair athletes will race from The Rocks to George Street Quay.

WHAT: Wugulora Indigenous Morning Ceremony – A special performance by indigenous dancers and singers at Barangaroo.

WHAT: Lion at Sydney Olympic Park – Watch a free screening of Oscar-nominated Lion, which tells the true story of a boy’s mission to find his family 25 years after being separated from them.

WHAT: Official Flag Raising Ceremony – The ceremony features an inspection of the Tri-Service Royal Guard of Honour, the Australia Day Affirmation and the singing of the Australia National Anthem.

WHAT: Australia Day Parade – Spectators will be treated to a vibrant public display of our diverse community with more than 1000 participants from more than 80 community and cultural groups.

WHAT: RACV Australia Day Festival in Kings Domain Gardens – Enjoy vibrant street food and a festive atmosphere in the Food Truck Park or on the main stage there is yoga for kids, bands, and the headline act, Peppa Pig.

WHAT: Australia Day at Bay Historical Village – Enjoy a full day of entertainment with sheep shearing displays, ropemaking, blacksmithing, corn shelling and woodturning demotions.

WHAT: Great Australian Bites – Communities in Airlie Beach, Charters Towers, Longreach and Rockhampton will come to life as Great Australian Bites serves up a range of pop-up culinary delights.

WHAT: Australia Day at South Bank – Get together with family and friends to enjoy an energetic line-up of home-grown musical talent, followed by a stunning fireworks display over the Brisbane River

WHAT: Australia Day in the Capital – Sit back and relax as the live soundtrack fills the air. Pop music group Justice Crew will headline the concert with their legendary moves and epic beats.

WHAT: Oxford Terrace Street Party – Enjoy storytelling with Australia Day Ambassador and renowned Mem Fox, children’s entertainment by Rumbo the Koala and Jumpo the Kangaroo, and a free sausage sizzle.

WHAT: Australia Day Bush Fair – Climb the rock wall or ride the mini train during this fair, which showcases Australia’s bush heritage. It concludes with a spectacular fireworks display synchronised to music.

WHAT: Australia Day Concert – About 40,000 people are expected to join to watch the popular concert, which features singers Ricki-Lee Coulter and Chris Sebastian.

WHAT: Australia Day Pool Party – There will be no shortage of summer fun with a number of attractions to keep the family entertained with a balloon artist, henna tattoos, bubble making and slip and slide.
WHEN AND WHERE: From 9am, Kalamunda Water Park
WHAT: Australia Day Skyworks – This year marks 30 years of the Skyworks. Events include an entertainment zone, and an air and water show to amuse above and on the Swan River.
WHEN AND WHERE: From 3pm, Langley Park
WHAT: Australia Day Fun Run – Join in on the Australia Day Fun Run for either a 3km or 5km run or walk. There will be a Zumba warm up before the run.

WHAT: Australia Day Celebrations – Welcome our newest citizens to Australia and also award Darwin Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year during this event.

WHAT: Australia Day on the Bellerive Boardwalk – This event includes the traditional big Aussie breakfast, the Clarence Australia Day Awards and citizenship ceremonies as well as live entertainment.
WHEN AND WHERE: From 8.30am, Bellerive Boardwalk
WHAT: Tasman Regatta and Peninsula Feast – This sleepy coastal town comes alive in celebration of its marine ties with a fishing competition, crab racing, kayaking, bay swimming and gumboot throwing.
