A man has been shot and killed at a shopping centre in Sydney’s south-west, police have confirmed.
The victim was reportedly shot in the pelvic region while he was at a cafe Bankstown City Plaza.
Two to three shots were reportedly fired in the attack at the Happy Cup Cafe.
“About 3.40pm, emergency services responded to reports of shots fired at Bankstown City Plaza,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Upon arrival, police located a man, believed to be aged in his 60s, with gunshot wounds.
“NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated the man, however he died at the scene.”
More than 50 NSW Police officers responded to the incident and authorities performed first aid.
The victim was shot in the pelvic region.
The public order and riot squads are searching for the armed offender, who is believed to still be on the run.
A local shopkeeper who was in the area at the time of the shooting told 9NEWS she heard screaming before seeing people run from the scene.
“I heard women and children screaming and when I looked up, there was about 20 people running,” she said.
“When another lady came out a few minutes later… she said ‘someone shot someone in the Happy Cup Shop’.
“When I went over there to see what happened, I saw a man was lying down on the floor with blood everywhere and there was another lady doing CPR.”
Another witness said he saw the gunman run from the cafe and described the shooting as “terrifying”.
“I was sitting down at Commonwealth Bank and I heard four gunshots and some guy sprinting,” he said.
“I go down and I see a guy lying down on the floor with four bullet wounds in the chest and a girl was giving him CPR.
“It was terrifying.”
