Police are investigating after a father drowned while trying to rescue his two children at a surf beach on Victoria’s south-west coast.
Emergency services were called to Skenes Creek on the Great Ocean Road after the 41-year-old Sydenham man got into trouble in the water about 1:20pm.
Police said another family member tried to help the man but he could not be revived.
An eight-year-old boy and 12-year-old boy were rescued.
Ambulance Victoria said the two children were taken to hospital in Geelong in a stable condition with no obvious injuries.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
