A police chase across Perth’s south has ended with five people rushed to hospital after the driver of the car being pursued ran a red light and smashed into traffic, leaving several people trapped and debris scattered 100 metres down the road.
Police allege the driver of a white sedan failed to stop in Riverton around 9:40pm on Friday and led officers on a chase through several suburbs before crashing after running a red light in Wattle Grove.
The white sedan flipped in the crash and was left upside-down while other cars were crushed, with six people rescued from wrecked vehicles.
The roof of one hatchback had to be removed entirely so emergency service crews could free the occupants.
An emergency service spokesman said the crashed caused “carnage”, and debris was scattered over a large area.
Up to 14 fire fighters attended the scene at the intersection of Hale Road and Welshpool Road East.
Four of the five people taken away by ambulance remain in hospital, although none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
